Clan MacRae Society attending 2013 Canberra Scottish Highland Gathering

Event Date and Time:

Saturday, October 12, 2013 - 10:00am to 5:00pm

Once again the Clan MacRae Society of Australia and New Zealand will have their clan marquee at the Canberra Scottish Highland Gathering taking place on Saturday 5th October, 2013. The traditional Scottish Highland Gathering is being held at Kambah Oval in Kett Street, Kambah. There is no charge to attend and it is open from 10am to 5pm.

Alan McRae, President of the Clan MacRae Society of Australia and New Zealand, will be attending. Elma McRae, Clan secretary, intends to be at the Gathering also. As usual MacRaes/McRaes will be visiting the marquee and Clan MacRae display and anyone who is a descendant of any MacRae, no matter what the spelling is welcome and encouraged to attend this interesting event.

The Canberra College of Piping & Drumming organises the day with this being the third second annual Scottish Highland Gathering. For those who wish to attend the day is followed by a celebratory Scottish Ceilidh night with traditional dancing, singing, piping and drumming at the Canberra Burns Club across the road in the evening.

In the true traditions of Scottish Highland Games there will be a wide variety of events. In addition to featuring the A.C.T. Pipe Band Championships, the day will also feature Highland and Irish dancing displays, folk music, massed pipes and drums, a concert band, Scottish heavy events such a the caber toss and lifting of the stones.  There will be clan tents, a multitude of stalls selling Scottish and related products, souvenirs and food, as well as a number of other displays and static events throughout the day.

It’s a great day out at this family friendly event where the MacRae Clan, other Scots, those of Scots descent, and those simply interested in Scottish music and culture can come along and join in the festivities.

The Clan MacRae Society attended the 2011 and 2012 Gathering which were a great success.
