with Clan MacRae as this year’s Clan of Honour
Ceud Mile Faite (A hundred thousand welcomes).
It is with great pleasure that I inform you that Clan MacRae has been selected to be this year’s Clan of Honour at the Bonnie Wingham Scottish Festival being held from Sunday 22nd to Sunday 29th May.
This is a great opportunity for members of the Clan MacRae Society of Australia and New Zealand to get with members of their family to enjoy a day, weekend or even a week together in Wingham. The event is run by the Manning Valley Historical Society under the chairmanship of Eric Richardson, OAM.
The main weekend is from Friday 27th to Sunday 29th May with the Street Parade, Highland Games and Scottish Ball on Saturday 28th May at 9.15 for 9.30am. All MacRaes/McRaes and family members have been invited to head the Street Parade which starts in Bent Street and then moves to Central Park for the Opening Ceremony, Highland Games and Pipe bands as well as markets. You do not need to own a kilt to march in the parade with the MacRaes.
The Clan MacRae Society of Australia and New Zealand will have a display of early historic Scottish and MacRae items on display as well as a series of MacRae/McRae photographs with information. Be sure you visit the Clan MacRae marquee during the games.
There is the Grand Scottish Ball in the evening. A full and detailed program with times appears further down the page.
On Sunday 29th May you can gather at 7.30am in the Riverside Reserve at lower end of Farquhar Street where the first Scottish immigrants came ashore for a thanksgiving service. This is followed by a BBQ breakfast. At 10am there is the Colloquium of Clan leaders at Tellers Restaurant in Bent Street, near the Services Club. At 12 noon we have the Festival Luncheon at the Services Club which is conducted as a Clan MacRae gathering and I hope to see as many of the Clan MacRae members there. After the meal will be a ceilidh with a variety of musical performances. The event and the festival will conclude about 2.30pm.
