Bungendore was chosen for our final Clan”Get-together" with our Scottish guests, Mrs. Marigold MacRae and Baroness Miranda MacRae Van Lynden. Its proximity to Canberra, a city our guests wished to visit, and its historic nature, made Bungendore which was settled in 1837, an ideal location.
The morning in Bathurst was a typical Autumn morning damp mown grass a slight nip in the air and expectant excitement by all who were there preparing for the day.
Several members of the Clan MacRae were on hand early to set up the pop-up folding marquees and place our signs – “Clan MacRae Society of Australia and New Zealand” across the front. With display cases of Scottish and MacRae memorabilia laid out and flags flying we were ready for the visitors.
The second of the Clan MacRae gatherings was held at Katoomba on Saturday 12th March, 2011, in honour of our overseas guests and was a great success. We were very fortunate that Elma McRae had chosen a wonderful old style hotel in Katoomba for the function.
The largest gathering for some time of MacRaes, McRaes, McCraes, or one of the other dozens of ways to spell this name, gathered at the Armidale Ex-Services Memorial Club to welcome two special guests from Scotland, Mrs Marigold MacRae and her daughter Miranda, Baroness Van Lynden, Constable of Eilean Donan Castle in Scotland.
Mrs Marigold MacRae is Life President of the Clan MacRae Society in the UK.
